5462 ink series is a one or two part liquid air cure ink. It is recommended for application by MARKEM and other pad printers onto polyamide, treated polyolefins, polyester, acrylic, polystyrene, ABS, polycarbonate, and rigid PVC. This series produces quick drying, glossy, opaque marks. Develops better solvent resistance when used as a 2 part. * MAY CONTAIN RESIDUAL ISOCYANATE MONOMER * REFER TO MSDS FOR PROPER HANDLING AND DISPOSAL PROCEDURES
Cure Property: air dry
Thinner: WK
Cleaner: 330
Remover: 320
Accessory Chemicals:
Adjust this ink for printing by adding 10 to 20% of the WK thinner. The periodic addition of thinner may also be required to maintain a viscosity appropriate for the application method.
For printing very fine motifs, WM retarder may be added to retard evaporation. Adding too much WM retarder can inhibit ink transfer from the pad to the substrate, however.
BK thinner should be used to accelerate the drying time.
The 330 cleaner is recommended for removing ink from the printing equipment.
Drying / Curing: Prints will dry to the touch in 1-3 minutes. When used as a 2 part, prints become fully cured in 24 hours. Can apply heat at 121°C for 10 min.
The actual drying time depends upon the substrate material being printed, the ink film thickness, and the ambient conditions.
The pot life of the catalyzed ink is approximately 8 to 10 hours.
Technical Data: With any MARKEM ink the surface to be printed must be properly cleaned prior to marking.
This ink may be used as a single component ink (A Package only) if solvent resistance is not required.
When used as a 2 part it requires the mixing of the basic ink with the 5462 Part B catalyst in the ratio of 10 parts 5462 Part A to 1 part 5462 Part B by weight. With catalyst added, the pot life of the ink is approximately 8 to 10 hours.
Part B is moisture sensitive and should be stored under dry conditions.
Recommendations for machine set-up are application specific and include: Plate material, plate etch depth, machine cycle rate, transfer pad durometer, type and amount of thinner (or retarder).
Shelf Life: The shelf life for this ink series is six months from the date of shipment.
Optimum storage condition is at 5-10°C in the original unopened container. Allow ink to warm gradually to room temperature before use.
